Explore the step by step process of Italian mastery and craftsmanship

Step 1. From Pencil To Paper

The whole process begins with a drawing, the first graphic representation of a masterpiece to come. Like an architect's plan, this serves as a reference document for all the craftsmen who work on it. Before a model can come to life, it must be transferred from thought to matter. Drafting the final sketch is a process which can take the artist many weeks and months.

Step 2. Model creation - Waxing

Once a draft is approved, a mould form of the design will be created. Next, replicas of this design are made of high density rubber using a process called “Vulcanization” developed in the early Nineteenth century. Once these moulds are ready they begin an ancient method know as “ the lost wax process”, here a highly skilled craftsman inserts wax into the rubber mould, creating a wax replica of the original design. The wax model is then placed into a clay form overnight at temperatures as high as 1600° F, then removed displaying a shape of our design formed into the clay.

Step 3. Casting - polishing

The next step of creating our jewelry masterpiece is the casting. Here, 925 Sterling is cast into a mould at high temperatures, then extracted from the mould once cooled. An expert artisan then begins the polishing and buffing, using age-old techniques to remove any rough edges, superfluous materials or imperfections, all while being extremely careful not to damage or scratch the precious jewelry.

Step 4. Gem-setting

A beautiful jewelry creation would not exist without the precious stones that give it brilliance, light and colour. These stones cannot become a piece of jewelry without an underlying structure, and in order to give the best of themselves, they must be set in the most subtle possible way. Our master setter has been dedicated to this art for close to a half century, meticulously setting both fine and synethic gems.

Step 5. Finishing

After the stones have been set, the masterpiece is then coated with a layer of Rhodium to protect the Silver. Rhodium is a rare material used to protect jewelry from scratches and prevent tarnishing. The piece is then cleaned and vigorously inspected to ensure utmost perfection.
